This beginner course is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals who want to learn the fundamentals of lung ultrasound and develop a practical approach to assessing patients with acute respiratory symptoms.
The course focuses on how to perform a structured lung ultrasound examination, understand normal sonoanatomy and ultrasound artefacts, and recognize important findings that can support clinical assessment in acute respiratory failure.
What you will learn
Throughout the course, we will cover:
- Systematic lung examination – learn a structured approach to performing lung ultrasound at the bedside.
- Lung sliding – understand normal pleural movement and learn how to recognize the absence of lung sliding.
- Ultrasound artefacts – recognize and interpret common artefacts, including A-lines and B-lines.
- B-lines – learn how to distinguish physiological from pathological B-lines and understand their clinical significance.
- Pleural assessment – learn how to identify and assess the pleural line using ultrasound.
- Pleural effusion – recognize pleural fluid and learn how to assess the left and right pleural spaces.
- M-mode – understand how M-mode can support the assessment of pleural movement and lung sliding.
