Heart Beginner 

Build a strong foundation in cardiac POCUS.

This beginner course is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals who want to learn the fundamentals of cardiac ultrasound and develop a practical approach to point-of-care assessment of the heart.

The course focuses on how to obtain the essential cardiac views, understand basic cardiac anatomy, and use POCUS to recognize important findings in common and potentially serious clinical situations.

What you will learn

Throughout the course, we will cover:

• Basic cardiac ultrasound views – learn how to obtain the parasternal long-axis (PLAX), parasternal short-axis (PSAX), apical and subcostal views.
• Cardiac anatomy – understand the key cardiac structures and how they appear in the different ultrasound windows.
• Left ventricular systolic function – learn how to perform a focused assessment of LV systolic function.
• Right ventricular dilatation – recognize RV enlargement and findings that may be seen in major pulmonary embolism.
• Pericardial effusion – learn how to identify fluid around the heart using POCUS.
• Basic ultrasound principles – understand the fundamental principles needed to acquire and interpret cardiac ultrasound images.
